Vigyan ashram believes school is the best place to transfer technology to villagers. Vigyan ashram developed a program called ‘Introduction to Basic Technology’ and ‘Diploma in Basic Rural Technology’. In these program students are trained in various technologies.

v      Students participate in various rural development activities as a part of their training.

v      Vigyan ashram encourages them to start their own enterprises based on new technologies.

v      Vigyan ashram selects technologies developed by various organization, adopts them and train students on them.

v      Vigyan ashram also modified many of these technologies as per local conditions. Vigyan ashram also published manuals for many of these technologies.

For e.g

Engineering – Ferro cement technology, Agricultural equipments, Various construction styles..

Energy – Environment – Water shed development, Survey techniques, Charcoal using biomass, smokeless chulha,  solar energy, biogas

Agricultural and Animal Husbandry - nursery technique, poultry, Goat farming, dairy, food processing

Home & Health – Food products viz Chikki, bakery products, wafers..

Soil testing, basic health test, water quality test etc.

 

Dissemination:

1) DBRT course got recognition from National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS). The program is adopted by following NGOs :

Gram Prabodhini , Salumbre,Dist Pune

Syamantak, Dhamapur Dist Sindhudurg

Friends of Tribal Society , Trissure, Kerala

Loksadhana Trust, Chikhalgaon, Dist Ratnagiri

Vigyan ashram provides content and training to instructors of these organizations.

2) Introduction to Basic Technology (IBT) got recognition from State Education Dept as a subject for 8th – 10th std. 28 schools adopted the program , in which training on basic technologies are given to students ‘one day’ per week. Various rural technologies are demonstrated on the school campus.

 

Replication : 

1) Lend-a-hand-India joined hands Vigyan ashram to replicate IBT program in 100 schools in Maharashtra till 2010.

2) Energy company M/S Suzlon Energy Ltd. Decided to fund 25 school as a part of their CSR initiatives.
