The project is at conceptual stage and
will be start from June 08. We found there is lot of potential in
agricultural services. There is shortage of trained manpower for
providing these services. Vigyan ashram decided to start working in
this area with the help of experts.
We found there is need for ‘Green house
Technicians’. Horticultural training Institute in Talegaon gives
short term training in green house for farmers but its mainly from
management point of view.
There is a need for ‘Greenhouse erecting technician’
‘Greenhouse maintenance people’ and ‘Greenhouse crop management’. The
course will involve this aspects.
Green house in Pabal will have following
facilities:
A)
Training in Medicinal Plants :
It is decided to start medicinal plant
nursery and further processing at Pabal. There is good demand for
medicinal plants and its processing. It can become a good occupation.
A medicinal plant nursery can be started at Pabal and training can be
started. NGO ‘Rural Communes’ had taken a project on medicinal plant
from DST. We can tie up with them and get the know how. We will start
working in this area.
B) Horticulture
Nursery:
It is decided to start nursery on ‘Pay
degree certification’. In the past, we kept record of all
horticultural plantation In Pabal area. Later, the practice was
discontinued. Pay degree certified
nursery will help in selecting trees, with proven tract record for
further grafting and propagation.
Providing small plants to farmers has good earning potential.
There is a shortage of people with grafting skills. Only Konkan Agri University
provides such course. This can become part of syllabus.
C) Improving
agricultural productivity:
Available land for agriculture is
reducing day by day. It is possible to increase productivity with
available land. For e,g For Bajara , highest yield is 35 quintal per
acre , whereas farmer gets average 5-6 quintal per acre. It is suggested to use green house
to demonstrate productivity (Per acreage) of the crop in the green
house.
Artificial insemination service for goat
is not available in Pabal and surrounding areas. Good quality of Goat
semen can be stored and used for many goats effectively. At present
insemination is carried out by showing she goat to male goat. And its
not economically feasible to keep male goat only for insemination. Artificial insemination techniques
can be started in ashram.
D) Training
in Herbal preparation :
The program will be extension of existing
food lab at Pabal. A resource person in Pune will help us in
developing the unit. We are
also planning to setup ‘Soya milk’ plant at Pabal and start
manufacturing and training ‘soya milk’ based products.
